Customizations: What have you done to your Strider?

We all know that Striders out of the box are pretty cool, but most of us or our kids have customized them in some way. Show us your handy work and share ideas. I'll start it off with some cool prototypes from the Strider R & D crazy man...Charlie!

The “Strider Righty” is another prototype just for fun. Cannondale makes a Lefty so we thought we might try a “Righty”. This prototype Strider is what happens when you’re holding a grinder with a cutting wheel in it and thinking up ways to lighten it even more.

The “Double Trouble” is a very fun idea but has so far proved impractical as a couple of riders in the midst of the terrible 2s or 3s can’t seem to cooperate enough to get in sync to ride it. Most attempts have ended in an argument, thus the name Double Trouble.

The “Temper Tantrum” is outfitted with oversized pneumatic tires, front suspension, front and rear hand brakes,Thudbuster seatpost (another patented product of strider inventor), and enlarged footrests… This gnarly downhill beast gathered some good attention at the show but is not a feasible bike for a toddler because of its weight (almost as heavy as the child!). The brakes pull too hard for a child’s small hand…essentially non-functional because of this.

With the new Color Accessories we should start seeing some really cool custom bikes rolling around Striderville and everywhere else soon.

We put Redline forks, stem, handelbars, some blue grips (before blue grips were cool), and a lizard skin # plate.

That's quite the custom bike, TXH. I don't know... you might have to try some blue wheels at some point just to see how it looks.

There are 2 more mods on the way plus a set of blues. When it done I'll get some more pics.

StriderMelon gets so much love everywhere we go. I still need to do decals and switch out to the mini-handlebars, then she's good to go :D

We had a blast cruising through downtown Lexington at the University of KY campus on this one...I'm thinking tailgating needs to happen soon!

My 7 year old was in heaven when the Hello Kitty Strider made an entrance at her B-Day party. Still need to add brakes and new handlebars, but I think she looks pretty sweet so far

She won't stop showing off with it...

Pretty cool! It's a bit deceiving because the colors are off, fun tool nonetheless :D

It is fun to play with. Way Cool! To bad there aren't any other color on the frame choses for those of us that have different plans for our Striders.

I just swapped out the solid tires for some rubber knobbies with air. No more slick front end wash out.

    Looking good :)
This vid showed me how to change to a threadless stem and handlebars. Although, I did have to ask rockhide for measurements due to my lack of knowledge involving the Japanese language :D

In the video it show some sort of shim / insert???

I could not get the stem (got off of a old ripper jr.) to tighten down on the forks enough?
??? any ideas, does the expander help to tighten it up, or just to cover hole?
Would an old school neck / quill work?
  18. Mada
It's a stem shim. The stem in the vid is a 1 1/8" stem (the majority of bmx stems available are that size) the fork tube is only 1" so you have to use a 1-1 1/8 stem shim or use a stem that's only 1"
